Fun at school with Maths!

Today in Maths we were learning how many tens there are in a number. We are building our place value knowledge.
We learnt that there are 10 tens in 100 and 20 tens in 200. We also know that there are 5 tens in 50, 7 tens in 74 and
6 tens in 63.
We all got to make tens using the popsicle sticks.
We then began learning how to solve addition problems by splitting numbers into place value parts.
We could add 43 + 12 as (40 + 10) + (3 + 2) = 50 + 5

Mrs Sauvarin said we did a really good job and so we got to make pictures using the maths equipment at the end.

Inventors and Inventions

Inquiry:  Our overall concept this term is
‘inventors and inventions’.
We are learning that an inventor is someone who is
the first to think of or make something.

Today Mrs Sauvarin challenged us to invent our own tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows.

We had to work as a team, cooperate,
discuss our ideas and try them out.

Some of our towers even managed to stand up by
themselves. Our designs were all really different.

We had a lot of fun inventing and building our towers!
The marshmallows were delicious too!

Spell-Writes for Matai Team

We are so lucky!
Last term, Mr Murray bought some Spell-Writes for all the Year 3 classes. Mr Murray is from 'Z' petrol stations!
We are loving using them in Room 7 and we
have written to Mr Murray to say
THANK YOU!
Here are some of our letters and some photos of us
using the Spell-Writes.

Thank you Mr Murray!
